Split second loss of power
Was driving down the motorway earlier pottering alone at 90kph and came up to a slow moving truck so indicated and went to move into the middle lane and went to increase acceleration when I went to do this there was a thud no power for a split second then back to normal. Didn't get a look at the dash to see if there was any warning lights. Just wondering if anybody has come across this problem before.

Cheers

Geoff

Yes we have twice but it wasn't just a loss of acceleration, it was more a total loss of power. We had it in but needless to say it mistified all. Having said that, touch wood, it has been ok since.

Well yeah I would say it was a total loss of power like it had been kicked out of gear. Wasn't a pleasant experience anyways. Like you said touch wood it doesn't happen again

My Td5 will do it when doing a steady 65+ for a prolonged time, motorway/dual carriageway. I have put it down to coolant temperature rising, doesn't show on the guage but it happened last time to me driving back from the LRO Show at Peterborough. There was a cross wind, I've got 2x 8" spotlights in the A bar plus the radiators are in need of a good clean out of Salisbury Plain and Welsh mud. The effect is short loss of power, the temp guage and fuel guages drop to zero but all retuns to normal. Drive 5mph slower no problem but drive faster for 10minutes and it will re-occour if climbing a hill or accelerating to overtake.

Not exactly the same but similar symptom in the past. Check your waste gate actuator is not sticking. There is a good video from Bell AUto Services (sponsors of this forum) I think on you tube.

I had this which eventually worsened over time.. It was the loom under the rocker cover that had deteriorated.

Was thinking it might be the injector loom alright but it was only changed a few months ago so hoping its not that. Would be nice to know what it was all the same tho

Check your radiator if you've been offroading.
See.....

Had it twice then it refused to start twice!!. Need 5 cranks to start, then second time it 3 cranks.

Dealer said it was all fine according to their computer when plugged in Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

They did indicate it maybe a wiring loom just 'wait and see'. They did check all earths and connections and so far it's been ok

If the turbo waste gate is seized it feels like the vehicle has hit a governor and a "surging" may be felt (it did on mine anyway). With the waste gate not opening, the turbo will be over boosting. The ECU will detect this and cut the fuel. As the boost drops, fuelling will then increase and the whole process starts again, leading to surging. If by loss of power you mean the vehicles speed starts to drop off rather than just lack of acceleration, I would look at it being something else. If it's just lack of acceleration then get some pliers or mole grips and follow Ians video.
