Rear heated screen replacement
Has anybody got any tips on replacing a rear heated screen? The heating elements have failed on my existing one and my efforts with conductive paint have failed too. I've now picked up a new screen and it was my intention to wander down to Autoglass and ask them to fit it. However, they've quoted me more than 120 Shocked As a result, I'm now considering doing it myself Rolling Eyes

I'm particularly interested in whether the rubber seal is likely to be re-usable? Darren

For what it's worth I think you'll likely have more trouble getting the old one out than the new one in. 120 could well be worth it in the long run with the faffing about you might have to do and if you accidentally damage the new glass it would ruin it. Up to you if you want to give it a go though. From ememory you will at least need some Fairy liquid and para cord or similar Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

If it is the same as a 2002 Defender it is a piece of cake, I had the old one off and the new one in in under 20 mins. Apart from removing the door card there were no tools required. Just a strong pair of thumbs, I was amazed as to how easy it was. I just pushed the rubber out from the inside, very simple quick job, never worth 120 Shocked

Two of the upper elements on mine have gone - is it a warranty job as the LR is still under warranty? Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Yes. Had that same problem twice and each time was replaced under warranty without discussion. This is a very well known sore to Land Rover, and they now have made a modified glass which should be less prone to that problem. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Thanks Taffrican, that's what I was hoping. I couldn't see 120 in it either. If they'd said 25 I would have happily paid to save me the bother Rolling Eyes Darren

LRA - It's the same with me and my EGR I was quoted 180 to fit it only exc the EGR it's self making the total 337! So I have bought the EGR myself (cheaper anyway) bought the tools needed to do so (Only a Torque wrench really) and this all in has cost me 140 all in and half hour of work. Quite a saving wouldn't you say. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
