Hi all, just waiting for 2.2 110 USW and wanted to fit side bars/steps and wondered if anyone has any advice regarding qulaity etc?
I have seen some nice 'Tomb Raider' style black ones with checker plate, for �159 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LANDROVER-DEFENDER-110-SIDE-STEPS-TUBULAR-CHEQUER-PLATE-/170651747133?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27bba3033d) but wondered if they're gash or not? Anyone used these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DEFEN...3a68cc4c66 Lot's of traders have the same pic but charge very different prices! Any comments appreciated! Are the fittings to a 2012 110 the same as previous models? Will I definately need a rivnut tool or any other way to fix them on? Thanks all and sorry it's such a long post! PS any recomendations for good Steering guards also appreciated! |

I also wanted side steps when I bought my new 110 Defender - mainly because MrsK's too short to get in and out without them
I bought some 2nd hand off a very helpful member of the forum (thanks Andrew). There's some for sale now: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic14617.html?highlight=steps You'll need a rivnut or a long thru-bolt to attack the outriggers to the chassis beam... They look a bit slippy in the wet.
Have you considered not buying any? They down really aid getting in and out. |

I find the Tomb Raider style very useful... Big enough for work boots but not so big they attack your shin if you don't use them
... and I like the look of them as well  |

I have Tomb Raider side steps on my 90, they're pretty good, but they really don't drop down very far so it's still a big step up!

Thanks for all the replies. Am I right in thinking all of these black tubular tombraider style are produced by 1 company and then sold everwhere hence big price differences!!!

Try Paddocks. They're cheap and very good quality. I've been impressed with all the stuff purchased from them

Not sure about the price differences, but mine are genuine LR ones I bought from the LRO show a couple of years ago - �200.

Ive got genuine LR stainless tubes on my 90.
They look fab..don't rot and can always be polished back. Yes..slippy when wet..so have about 300mm of self adhesive grip tape where your leading boot goes. Have also put 300mm of clear Porsche style body protect to prevent muddy toes scratching sill. Works great for us. Clemmo |

there a several different suppliers of similar looking steps and there is variation in quality of finish and thickness of materials used which accounts for a variation in price to some extent and the remainder of the variation due to how competetive on price the supplier is.
