B&B / hotel
Following a slight change of plans this week I'm taking some holidays at the end of the week.
I'm looking for some recommended B&B or farm guest houses / hotels in the lake district area that can be suggested or recommended. Needs to be dog friendly so the 2 labs are welcome.

If you have any suggestings let me know.

Thanks

It depends what you're looking for really!

Because th traffic in the Lakes can be a nightmare, we tend to stay in a cetrally-located B&B with restaurants, pubs and shopping all walk-able.

We used this place last time (and liked it):

http://www.brathay-lodge.co.uk/index.html

It has private parking in the centre of Ambleside, and one of our favourite restaurants in Ambleside is there (Lucy's on a plate). Great spot to get the open top bus to Grasmere and then walk back, or use the Windermere cruise boats to get around the Lake (i.e. you're not car-bound). They have some rooms with their own front door which would be ideal for the dogs I guess.

Ambleside is always a good base IMHO. Good walking there as well (without using the car). Heading up to Lily Tarn gives a great view down Windermere. Grasmere to Ambleside (using the open-top bus service) gives a great walk down the W side of Rydal Water. Great coffee and cakes at the Rydal Hall coffe shop... Good beer in Golden Rule pub... Bigger walks "the Fairfield Horseshoe", and other pubs - the Britannia at Elterwater... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Thanks Martin.

Travel around is not too big an issue - we know the area well but in he past we have stayed in a lodge further afield.

The biggest issue is a dog welcome place that does actually do that. We had a bad experience with a big hotel in Aviemore in the past who advertise being dog friendly- when we arrived it was far from that with the dods only being allowed in the room and no where else in the hotel, even the reception area was out.

Try the Kirkstile Inn at Loweswater. Pretty sure they take dogs? It's out the way of the main tourist spots, and amongst (IMO) the best scenery around - Buttermere etc.

The Armathwaite Hall near(ish) Keswick takes dogs too, but again I think it's not in communal areas, and the rooms are disappointing for the sizeable price they're asking.

Personally I'd keep away from the A591 corridor (Keswick through to Windermere) as it's so touristy. But it's just about starting to calm down now after the holidays.

There are a couple of nice pubs in Hawkshead, both took dogs in the bar and I'm pretty sure that they both did in the B&B, can't remember the pub names sorry, but google will bring them up.

Not in the most rugged part of the lakes, but near enough and some nice local walks.

If your not having any luck there is a kennel/doggie day care up the road from us in the south lakes, you could stay where ever you like and drop them off in the evening a friend of ours use's them and they are very good, just an idea that gives you a bit more choice

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm told that the boss has this sorted

Will find out more when I get home later.

There is plenty availability in some place that advertise as pet friendly but that might just be one room out of the whole place, would be easily if you have booked well in advance but last minute is not so easy.

Now to get the defender ready when I get home Very Happy Defender 110 County SW
