starting options
Ho all.

My optima 4.2 is about dead. So I'm looking at alternate options. First is a normal lead acid battery from halfords at 600cca or stock spec. Second is the biggest lead battery I can find that fits at 900cca plus or third go for a 2 batteries and 24volt starter like land cruisers. What would you do and why?

I had a battery from Halfords and they used to give a four year no quibble guarantee. (Not sure if they still do!) But I ended up swapping it out at the three-year plus stage and had no problems whatsoever.

Dependant on guarantee I would 'lean' towards Halfords personally. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

get a Numax CXV24MF http://www.tayna.co.uk/Numax-Leisure-Batteries-S284-1.html

You can even fit 2 of these in a defnder battery box.

they have Cold Cranking Amps of 1000 Thumbs Up

I have 2 of these going in my 110. they have twin connectors, so big one for the car, smaller ones for extras.

I thought leisure batteries weren't designed for starting cars? Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Just go for the standard Land Rover one warrenty is bulet proof only about £15 dearer than the Halfords one.
Does what it says on the tin If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Halfords three year guarantee on the lead acid batteries and four year guarantee on the slightly dearer calcium battery. No quibble and if you have bother you can go to ANY branch with your receipt and get an exchange. Have used them and would recommend them.
The current Land Rover Varta is a good battery and made in Germany. Halfords batteries seem to be made in Germany too judging by the paperwork stuck to the side of them. If I could not get a Varta I'd get a similar spec from Halfords. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Another option could be the following:

D44 battery tray, 2x PC1500DT batteries - CCA of 880 each, 2250A for 5 secs. Keep the systems as 12V, include some form of controller/diodes/relays and then the second battery can be used for auxillary only to power anything else you have and keep the main battery fresh for starting.

I use a Genesyz controller - press a button for start assist; press again for winch assist.

Started first time (actually without the start assist) at -40C in Sweden last winter

i've chosen the numax as i get 20% off that price...VAT Whistle so that makes them half of an odyssey.

I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure.

Took the plunge and got a Bosch type 75 in silver 5year guarantee spec 68 ah and 600cca. Supposedly it will stand the short burst frequent start driving that the car is subjected to better than most. Besides 5 years to take it back if it is no good has to have some merit. Also as it's slightly less bulky than both stock and the optima I gain a bit more room for junk in the battery compartment. Happy days. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Land Cruiser (the 95 and 120 HD specs.) have two batteries IN PARALLEL, always 12V at all....
