Steve, have you been able to check if the ICE has that higher output alternator? If so, guess fair to assume mine will have the same.  You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I live in Norway, and the winter has been here for some weeks already this year.
In cold climate you should never spray your windows. The fluid will freeze before the wipers take it away. Heated frontwindow is standard in Norway (and Scandinavia?). When my window is frozen to ice, I start the motor and put on the heating for the window, and in a couple of minutes I am able to push ice and snow of the glass. DON'T use the wipers for this. They may be frozen against the glass, and u will rip of the rubber, burn the fuses, or burn the wipermotor. Lift the wipers by hand, and be sure they are not stuck. When it's a bit cold (-15 or colder), there will be no roadspray and no snow- or rainfall. So tatra805 is spot on. I know most of the Land Rover community in Norway (member of the national LRC-board for several years) and know of none using Heatshot or similar. And one thing that is very important is to clean all rubberseals around doors and windows and put a good siliconfluid on them. That way you will avoid the doors freeze to the doorposts.. Didn't catch whether any of the previous posters actually have Heatshot...
I do and combined with winter screenwash it got through recent ice very quickly. It only activates when the engine is running and is ready to go in less than a minute. I have a heated screen too, although the dealer broke several elements last service 
Sure I don't need it (or a heated screen) but it improves washing in Summer and Winter - just need some really thick ice to try it properly  Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Yes Mr Boode - I wished that I had a heated screen when we were in that thick fog/snow storm around Honningsvag last year.....the Sportisvarska screen wash stuff was occasionally managing to get out of the nozzle - but by the time it got to the screen/wiper arms it had become frozen into a light blue mess of ice - the wipers looked like two blue ice lollies flapping around in front. Even with the heater on full tilt, the Webasto auxiliary flat out, we weren't creating a lot of engine heat (slow convoy) and I spent that piece of the journey looking through two small gaps in the screen.....as it happens the fog was so thick you could only see to the end of the bonnet anyway: we narrowly missed a 3 truck pile up which would have been exciting. PS - the Halfords screen wash had a better spec than any I could find in Norway - perhaps i wasn't looking in the right places: you'll need gallons of the stuff |

For the rubberseals on the doors I use either Turtle Silicone, or CRC silicone. You will find them at all gasstations in Norway and Sweden i think. Be aware. If you blow hot water at a cold windowpane? Guess what may happend. yes; CRACK! Ronny S |
