Central silencer replacement
Hi, I am thinking of replacing the central silencer on my 110. I have found several around on the Internet for reasonable prices. my question is: will it be an MOT failure? I mean... I did on my previous 90 back in Italy, but there the MOT is close to a joke, while here in the UK they seem very thorough.
I need your advice guys Smile

Straight through centre silencer no probs with MOT Thumbs Up After all it's making no difference really other than flow it's not like removing the Cat then again even a de-cat is still legal (for now anyway) Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

only issue i can see it that it would be boomy. i've seen a 110 mid box with a small cherry bomb style silencer fitted. Anyone got one on here...might of been alive or twisted?

De cat makes it louder aswell

Does removing the mid box really do much while the cat is still in place? Would removing the cat and leaving the mid box be a better thing to do?

Removing the cat and leaving only one box made a huge difference to mine.

No I don't want to remove the cat. I did the modification on my previous Td5 and the performance didn't really change much nor did the fuel efficiency. Just the sound was a little more natural and at high RPM the turbo whistle was a little more audible.
The main reason why I do this is probably that I just feel like spending 80 quid and crawling under my Defender on a sunny Sunday afternoon Smile

It makes a big difference on the Puma though, especially with a remap.

It is worthwhile doing believe me especially on the Puma as said above. I think there is a slight acceleration boost even as standard with no re-map as simply the gasses can exit quicker and more easily and sounds nicer even with the cat in place as mine is. Just hope your bolts on there are fairly new or you'll have some fun with them if their rusty Neutral Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

No problem. Yes I did have to cut mine off to as they were rusty as well. When you actually look at the silencer it's self you can see just how it is restrictive as the entry and exit are off set and there seems to be some kind of baffle(s) inside obviously to bring the noise level down. It's also heavy and drops down a lot which could be a problem catching on something. All the same mines been melted by now at the local scrap merchants Laughing Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Removing the centre box on my 110 has made no difference to the sound level at all and it does not boom.

90's centre box removal does boom and Alive sell the centre box with the cherry bomb for these.
Gary advised I would not need the cherry bomb on the 110 and he was correct Thumbs Up

CC - I had to cut the rear bolts off my mid box when I fitted the centre pipe, there was no way that they were ever coming undone Shocked

I've got a 3 inch bore 304 stainless turbo back system on my 110 and the noise is best described as pleasurable. Not as nice as Td5 at the low end, but at least as good as under load. It is an XS with some insulation in the back... Laughing
