To give more power, they must allow more air through, so more air the more likely there is more dirt getting into your engine.

Stick with the standard filter, Washable filters are rubbish, at least in dusty conditions they are.
You don't need any more airflow unless you had a remap, in which case pull that hiclone thing out of the bottom of your airbox & you instantly get 25-30% more airflow. |

Remove the air inlet pipe from the bottom of the airbox [the one from the wing grill to filter housing] .... its a bugga to remove but you need it out of the way,
Then you will feel a restriction in the opening on the airbox. Reach in with pliers, grip the restrictor and yank it out Looks like a hyclone/ fixedpropeller .. it purpose was to restrict water ingress through the intake , unfortunetely it also restricts air flow. |

The Alive filter is an ITG
Having had one in our old TD5 DII, IMHO the problems of oil contamination of MAF's far outweighs the marginal benefits on Land Rover engines. I accept that there may be some performance gains in a free revving petrol or even in a very highly tuned diesel, but for most Land Rover applications you'd be hard pressed to notice any difference. check this thread, theres a picture of that hiclone thing that you need to remove. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic14313....p;start=15 As far as Washable filters, My old 90 hybrid had a 5 litre Ford V8 & to tell you the truth, I put a K&N filter on it & apart from the sticker it made no difference at all. Human nature as it is you spend the $$ on something & the placebo effect comes into play. But frankly I'd stick with the standard element. Even more so because of the comments about the MAF. |
