Tyre Repair in France
On hols and just had a puncture. Luckily there was a tyre shop opposite my hotel so I got them to repair the tyre. What I expected was a typical repair we have in the uk where you get a patch with a conical plug attached being pulled through the hole . Here in France the tyre shop simply applied a patch front inside the tyre but no plug to fill the hole.
I'm not sure if that's ok? Any tyre experts that can give me an opinion?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Oh, just to top it my brand new britpart defender bottle jack worked fine to change the wheel when I got the puncture but now won't lift a second time to put the repaired tyre back on. Neutral

having had a few punctures in my time a tyre guy once explained that it depends on the size of the hole. Smallish punctures get a plug, larger ones get a patch (or so I was lead to believe)

That might make sense as it did look like Frankenstein's neck bolt that lodged itself in my tyre! Still a bit concerned though as it's left quite a big hole in the middle of my tread.

Lazy gits didn't even rebalance my wheel even though I asked them to - they just marked the valve position on the tyre and refitted it aligning the mark.

Thanks,

Mark

Not a tyre expert.

Have had chalk valve position trick done before. Never experierenced any problems afterwards.

You could always carry a sticky string kit with you. Hardest problem is finding the puncture. OK sticky string is not road legal

Hey Brendan,

No amount of sticky string would have fixed this one - the head of the bolt sticking out the tyre would have needed a 19mm spanner!

The Land Rover Working in the Wild handbook states...
"Emergency puncture repairs can be carried out without patches or replacement tubes by stuffing tyres with rags or grass.Tyres must be discarded after use in this way"
(It does not mention anything about rebalancing the wheel after stuffing it with rags or grass Rolling with laughter )
Judging by that, your patch repair seems like overkill! Mr. Green 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
