hi,
anyone been off rode in this area? I'm off cycling that was soon and I'm planning on making it into a short family break. Last time I was there I came across a dutch family in their 110 up one of the peak. so I'm thinking I could go for a wee bit of off roading (first time for me). I'll try and confirm the exact details of where I'm planning on going and would really appreciate some info from anyone that may have already done the tracks that I'm planning and what the thoughts are in terms of a novice tackling them (oh and by the way I don't like getting my truck dirty.....I certainly don't want to go bumping it). thanks  |

just been looking at the map and have remembered the track we car across the 110 was next to the little church at Mynydd Trawsnant next to Llyn Brianne - anyone know it ?

yep - thats the one. as you come out there's obviously a couple of tarmac roads but there's also a track that becomes quite steep almost immediately and then onto a bit of a plateu before heading back down into the Dothie Valley.
you know it? this is the track I'm thinking about having a trundle along and as said it'll be a first for me off road....do you think I'm biting off more than I should? |

doh
I guess you're right but I'm not expecting to much mud to get stuck in as for the most part the track is fairly rocky / stony - that said I appreciate there's more than just mud to stuck on...... thank you for the advice. |

Soar y mynydd is a nice lane with few real difficulties but might not be recommended as a first greenlane unless you are a confident driver. Only 2 issues as I see it it are a very steep and loose start/finish (at the Lynne Brianne end) could cause problems. You have to be in right gear and take the right line as to have to stop and back up for another attempt would be "interesting". Then further along it is quite deeply entrenched and has a fairly good side slope so that you need to actively drive up the sideslope to avoid rubbing your body on the side of the trench lower side. Easy enough but potentially damaging if you got it wrong. If you manage it you will be rewarded with great views and a real sense of isolation. Carry on the other side and you get to take pictures pretending to be the only gay in the village
