Metal Detectors
Any experts from the font of all knowledge out there? Looking to locate several buried metal 'T' fittings along my watermain. From memory some may be over 600mm below ground. Looking for reasonable cost detector that might do the job. Any recommendations anyone?

From memory there is specialist detectors for water mains but I don't have a clue about them or prices (no doubt expensive) but maybe an idea for you all the same so worth mentioning. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

600mm is a long way down for a generic metal detector. The wife bought me a pretty comprehensive one from Maplin as a present a couple of years back and on full sensitivity that will only reach about 200mm. I think you might be looking at specialist kit to reliably detect that deep.

I agree, to be detecting down to 600mm with a metal detector you will need something special. How big are the T pieces? Unless they are huge you will have to turn the sensitivity up to allow the detector to see them, but the flip side is that it will then see every other piece of metal between you and the T piece.

Are there no specialists in your are with ground radar??? Might be an easier solution 110 D250 SE HT

I have used the kit in the last post before now (to locate a buried galvanised pipe run approx 2' underground) and it worked very well.

From the OP, I get the impression that the task is not to locate the water main, but to find out where on the main the T-pieces are. The equipment above will undoubtedly let you plot the route of the main, but you may have to dig it up to find the T-pieces.

If the main is MDPE with metal tees you might be in with a chance (but metal tees on an MDPE main??). If the main is metal then I think you'll have to start digging for the tees.

Saw that for myself around 20 years ago WP. Was totally sceptical until pub across the road was getting a well bored. Bloke just like that came along and pointed to where he said there was water. Started drilling and cut right through a 75mm MDPE main!!

Thanks to all for valued contributions, will investigate further options. Main is MDPE pipe with around half a dozen brass 'T' compression fittings from memory, I suspect one or more may have corroded slightly causing some leakage.
