Franken' 110

This is my F reg 110. Its sort of a hodge podge of years though. A little background, Im a US expat over here until 2014. I have always wanted a Defender, but I refuse to pay what people want for imported derelicts, rusty NAS 110s, or questionable VIN swaps. When I got here I decided to have someone take an 1989 (legal to US import in 2014) and make some changes and improvements. Ill list the notable points of the vehicle, but its still in progress as I need to do some interior work and some small things need to be addressed.

Drivetrain swapped for 300tdi/R380
Richards Galv chassis
Salisbury Disc rear axle
Push button style doors
Smooth roof
New Puma style bonnet ( I will never get used to saying that)
Newer defrost/wiper rear door
TD5 bulkhead
Two tone leather seats
Front runner rack and ladder
Mantec swing with door tire carrier
NAS rear bumper with tow electrics
Black powdercoated Boost alloys x5
Black Land Rover lettering
Rock sliders
Mud flaps

I need to change out some of the interior trim and install a Lasalle headliner this summer. The steering pump needs replacing also as its beginning to whine. All in all its fun to drive. Ive had different Jeep models and I had a Disco 3 in the states. Here my wife has a 2011 Freelander 2.

I wish I could have a newer version like most of you own, but I didn't want to drive one and then have to leave it when I returned home.

That's a cunning plan - very nice 110 Thumbs Up

p.s. get some theft-proof bonnet hinges - I grew up in Ipswich Whistle Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

I didn't realize how much these bonnets were thief bait when I spec'd it out in my head. I will look into those hinges mentioned. I just pulled the roof rack as its going to spend down time in the garage while I'm in the USA next month. Out of sight out of mind.

I just moved a bit away from Ipswich, but I wont specify based on possibly leading people straight to the bonnet heh. I was in Sproughton, which I thought was a quiet little village. That is, until I forgot to lock the wife's Freelander after getting out one night and someone went around checking door handles... I lost a new EU mapped satnav, her ipod, parking change in the glove-box, and the jerks took a good bit of the car's paperwork...

I made a mental checklist of the things I liked when I got here last year and attended the Billing show. Talk about walking into the promise land! Im definitely attending that again this year. Its two hours from where I am, so the other half might require me to drive her in the Freelander.

The engine, transmission, and transfer box have some decent miles on them. Im thinking of swapping out the latter two with Ashcroft recon units since the engine is still pulling strong and fires off first try.

Thanks for the kind words. I did the paint scheme like last years X-techs in Nara Bronze and black. The specialists who did the work thought it was a hideous color for a Defender. I think it looks fine though, and should blend in with newer car colors better when it gets back to the states.

Didn't really notice the colour (or "color" Laughing ) first time round - I like it Thumbs Up

p.s. a schoolfriend of mine got killed driving on a road in Sproughton - drive carefully/defensively! Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
