RiP - Carroll Shelby
One of my heroes and a true petrolhead legend has passed away. Former LeMans winner, Shelby loved the little British AC Aceca but thought it lacked power. So he dropped a 427 Ford V8 in and gave birth to the AC Cobra.

Had a go in a Bristol engined AC Aceca a few years ago when I was looking into building an AC Ace replica by Hawk. VEERRY nice Bow down

The 289 is in between the Ace and Cobra - prettier car I think than the Cobra

I agree the 289 is the prettier car but the 427 has always had that 'brute' appeal.

The story used to be that when Carroll Shelby took prospective customers for a test drive he put a 100 dollar bill on the dash and told them that it was theirs if they could get a hold of it ... and he then hit the gas and left them pinned back in their seat.

I used to have a red 5.7l Ram Cobra replica with a beautiful Tremec box and side exhausts. Bit of a hooligan machine but great fun. Drove it down to Sienna on holiday, roof down all the way and actually provoked applause from onlookers in some Italian villages.

The description legend is often over used these days but he was someone who truly lived up to the label. A little bit of car culture has passed with him

Closest i ever got to one Thumbs Up

Mate in Kent has a Raynard racing chassis under his cobra. Fast is not a word I would use. Even that is to slow a word to describe it. You can hear him coming for ages before he arrives. Only comes out in summer and then gets used properly. 110 D250 SE HT
