If they are not supplied like this, then don't bother. Not sure how much you paid/saved but you should be able to get the all for around £30 straight from LR dealer, seems the safest and easiest way to ensure you have the correct ones.

The O-rings are green tinted. These are suitable for contact with fuel and oils, which would break down a plain rubber O-ring. BTW, LR manufacture the Td5 Fuel Pressure Regulator using standard rubber O-rings, which explains why some leak from new.

If you are going to rebuild your own FPR, you ideally need to also chamfer off the internals. This poorly manufactured metal can damage the O-ring when they are inserted, thus why the odd one can leak from new.

There is a recent (December 2011) SSM (SSM34046 - TD5 Cylinder Head Damage At Injector Location Bores) on TOPIx outlining why and how to do this, as if it is not done correctly, the injectors could be damaged, and also there is the possibility of the head being cracked and leaking fuel into the sump.

If you use the correct SPX tool for this job, it is idiot proof anyway. The lobe has to be in this position otherwise the tools will not fit. If you are using a heel bar or something to force it out, then beware.

Steve

That's why I'm waiting.
I'm wondering, if they were not as described, can I claim the cost of repairs?

mine went noisy recently after changing the fuel filter - apparently quite a common issue according to my Landrover mechanic mate. I got one of the £80 ebay ones to replace it and he said it was near enough identical to a genuine one that was going to cost easily 3 times as much.

Hardest part was getting the flippin fuel tank out to change it Laughing

Received my proper genuine seals today, all in individual bags with landrover on them Thumbs Up

When I took them out, to be honest, they did not look any different from the suspect ones I put up a photo for a few posts ago.

Not going to change them just yet, as others have been changing them due to poor starting, lack of power etc.

My pump sounds noisy (not had a td5 before, so might be normal!), and I do not have any starting issues, power loss or oil level rising - just only getting 16mpg Big Cry 1996 Defender 130 converted to TD5 and auto

I submitted the following to the seal suppliers this evening.........

Dear Sirs
The items I received were not as advertised, i.e. not in original manufacturers packaging.
They failed in less than 100 miles after being fitted by a reputable Land Rover service company. This company tells me that they were not original since original O rings are of a dark green colour.
I require you to submit absolute proof of originality or refund my payment to you plus the cost of replacement by my service engineers.
Yours, very sincerely Laurie Wright

The seals are definately dark green, where as the ones from Trillick were black. The washers look the same, bright copper colour (as in my photo above) 1996 Defender 130 converted to TD5 and auto
