Ill ask the question at TT for you, it may be that they can offer a rebuild of yours or a hybrid of it, but untill i speak with them im not sure.

Hi

The turbo is a direct replacement so fitting is easy, the old manifold "bull horns" slide out of your old turbo manifold. for non UK orders and forum orders exchange is not needed you can keep your old turbo.

Thanks. I think my 300Tdi deserves one, will have to work on SWMBO!

roamingman, i have just been on to developement at TT. Can you clarify your engine size as from our records we only have the 2.8 and 3.1 engines listed of which the 3.1 is far newer than you have in your picture. This only leaves yours as the 2.8 and not a 3.9 ?

Alsoif you can provide any turbo names and numbers from its casting and pictures if possibile to my email. I can then go back and see what we can offer you as a recon or hybrid.

Between the Allisport VNT and the IRB Development VGT, which brand/model would be recommended to install into a 300Tdi?

It's the same turbo... developed and tested by myself and turbo techinics (I still have the prototype doing sterling service on my 300Tdi), sold to Allisport via BAS.

Myself and BAS (bell auto services) are the only suppliers of the turbo - and the whole range of direct fit turbo conversions... so any one selling them has brought from one of us. So they get glory for zero effort.

It depends on how much fuel YOU add from the fuel pump and how you drive it, the turbo only adds the air.

i'm not heavy on the foot, i don't accelerate fast and pretend I'm in an Aston Martin and I don't like to make lots of noise. I have a full width intercooler and newly reconditoned fuel injector pump. So I'm wondering whather a VGT will make the 110 more fuel efficient. 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent

To be totally honest if your not going to press the throttle and not use the extra power id personally save your money, the turbo is part of making the car more powerfull really than a mpg device.

@Foxhound

I'm getting nearly 40mpg out of my 200tdi with the vgt around roads in Snowdon and stints on dual carriageways.

I've not tested it against anything, and nothing more scientific than brimming the fuel tank and measuring the miles using google maps and calculating the mpg from there.

My 200tdi is bone stock, after i had the Bosch Ve pump overhauled and reset to factory with new injectors to go with it.
The previous owner messed about with the pump quite a bit.

Wow!! that's amazing. Is it a 90 or 110? Any idea what the mileage was pre VGT? Googling suggests 28-30 for a 110. 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent

its a 90 with nothing in it.

my engine is rebuilt completely @200k miles. Maybe that's cheating ? Lightened flywheel, balanced with crank and pistons assembly.

Before the rebuild i just remember waiting for the turbo to wind up all the time with the engine slugging away until boost was achieved. I think the VGT turbo enables 'efficient' power all the time, because boost is there all the time, hence the better mpg.
