Summer tyre suggestions please
Although I love my meaty Coopers, I have to admit it won't be much fun driving them long distances in Summer.

For "German" reasons I want to buy a second set of steels (7J 16") and put some sportier 265s on
(sorry Killer - can't go to 20" without major TÜV problems Laughing )

They don't have to be "greenlaners (or even ATs) - almost exclusively for road/motorway use.

Can anyone give me suggestions for sporty road tyres suitable for a 110?

Cheers,
Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

As summer tire for mainly road use, Conti Cross Contact, the new ex-factory tire which LR put on new Defenders now. They have a nice profile too which suits a Defender very well. When I will replace my original summer tires (Grabber TR), I most certainly will switch to the Contis, albeit will stay with the original tire size of 235/85-16. Not there yet though, as I in the winter put Nokian winter tires, so my Grabbers probably have done 35k km by now, and have lost maybe 2 mm. Can't even notice the difference with the spare.

Never have seen the advantage of going wider than original 235 width, and here in Switzerland it basically is illegal to do so. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Mainly for a wider stance and looks I think. I have 235/85 KM2's Another thing is with wider is that there will be a higher rolling resistance which will me with more rubber on the road and also increased weight increased fuel consumption. Probably nothing much but over a lot of miles maybe more of a concern. Thumbs Up

Laughing Just sold my Contis with the Boost rims Laughing
They were pretty good last Summer but I'm after 265s with a sport profile...

Actually, the Grabber HTS looks promising...

Cheers

I've been very happy with a set of Michelin Latitude Tour HP's for the summer They are 265 section but on 18" x 8" rims. Not cheap but good grip and quiet. I ordered them from mytyres.co.uk but they were shipped from the parent company Delticom in Germany.

Entreq are about to do some very nice black Kahn 18" rims, but for about 300 Euros each I'll have to stick with 16" Dakars for now Big Cry Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

You can get this tyre in 265x70x16 if that is what you're after:

how about BFG Longtrail. not sure whether they do them in the right size for you. i have only experienced them on a Jeep Wrangler and i was quite impressed, low noise and good ride. i used them on tarmac, rough tracks and sand/gravel tracks. did'nt let me down at all. BM52

I used to have Pirelli Scorpians on both my 90 and the Discos that I've had and couldn't fault them on the road and light off road use. Probably don't do them tall enough for the 110 though Rolling Eyes

Thanks BM52 - still considering them. However, JWL makes an interesting point too - I've always driven on Pirellis on my other cars and they actually do them big enough (my TÜV docs allow 265/70s Thumbs Up)

I've used Scorpion STRs on my FL on most surfaces, except gloopy mud, and have ben very impressed with them. when i change them next year i will be gettting the same again.

out of interest have you thought about the new Grabber AT tyre. seems to get very good overall reviews and a good price? BM52

Looks like a very nice tyre but I'm looking for something more for just road use. I just bought some brilliant Discoverers for Winter/offroad but I recon I will kill them hammering up and down the autobahns in hot weather... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Why not have the OEM tyres. There are loads about since people always want to swap them so they're often very cheap for what is a very good tyre.

My 265's are just fine with strassenvehrkesampt. As long as you don't go out past the wheel wells, your fine. I do believe 265's are listed as original/complementary equipment in the owners manual. 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately)
