E-Bay Question!
I want to bid on an item which is currently at £150 if I put in say £525 will it automatically go straight up to £525 or will it go up only just enough to beat the next highest bidder. E.g. if the next highest is £160 will mine only go up to say £165 for instance or does it just go straight up to £525.

E-Bay mentions automatic bidding that goes up in increments relating to the highest competing bid but doesn't say how you sign up to it or does it do that anyway - thanks been a long time since I've done E-Bay. I used to just whack in a high bid to win and it only went just over the highest competing bid not the maximum i put in...

Thanks

Yep, always worth watching the last few mins though as people tend to lurk then strike as the seconds are ticking away! Andy

If someone has also put a high auto bid in, say £500, then it will soon escalate to that price..Wink

Worth Googling some of the strategies for winning eBay auctions...even down to syncing the time on your PC to that of eBay and doing some test bids to see how long it takes to register a bid. Seconds count...!

Good luck.

cheers

Yeah I've lost out before when bidding saying it had 4 minutes to go and then it suddenly finished Shocked Might put the bid in ten mins early.

Should sign up to one of those last second bidding systems really.

Hell yes! I actually really do hate that, although you can understand why. I quite a few cases my sales have had no bids right up until the last 30 mins.

Some people have done very well, but others then have still ended up paying a lot.

Right Now I've got a Defender Steering Wheel up for sale and it's got 3 days left on it. It's had 33 views and 10 people are watching it. I'm sat here thinking JUST BID!!!!

worth waiting a bit longer, Put the bid in within the last minute (Ive got mine in seconds) then no time for the other person to have a think about it if they were lower.
No point bidding it up early, unless your bidding on my stuff then your more than welcome to do so Laughing Defender puma dormobile camper

Having bought a few items bidding on ebay......my top tip would be....down load a "bid sniper" app for your phone. The you can program the app to place your maximum bid a few seconds before the end. It saves getting into a bidding war days before and still loosing out.

I got a set of special glasses the other day at their starting price.
I had put a max bid of 4 times higher.
Seems I was the only bidder. Very Happy

Chris,,, It Could !!

If the item has a reserve on it, set at say £500, your bid at £525 would be placed and put the item on sale California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

/\ That wouldnt be the case as you cant bid against yourself. say the reserve is £500 and the start is £100 If you put a bid of £525 you will come up as the highest bidder still at £100 (reserve not met). You need another person to be bidding.
Hope this helps Defender puma dormobile camper

Sorry Tom,, but not correct

If you put a bid on, and that meets or betters the vendor's reserve, your bid will be placed at that reserve price

Go and try it Smile Thumbs Up California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

I use goofbid.com and simply put on the max amount I am prepared to pay. I often get the item for less but if it goes for more then it doesn't bother me.
I'm always bemused by people bidding up an item because although its called an auction, it isn't. Rolling Eyes
You know the exact time its going to end so be smart and just bid in the last few seconds.
If you use one of the sniping sites you can set up your bid and it does it all for you.
