Rear ended a Transit van this morning....
Not a good start to the day. I was taking the dog for a walk in Lyme Park in the 90. As I turned up the A6 at the Rising Sun Pub in Hazel Grove, the sun was directly in my eyes, and I reached for the sun visor. At that moment, the car in front of the Transit made a sudden stop for some reason unknown to me, the Transit just stopped in time, I didn't Sad

A couple of observations, first TD5 with no abs, slides an awful long way! No matter how good a driver you think you are, when the inevitable is approaching you just grip the seat with both buttocks and jam your foot on the brake. I could have possibly saved the situation had I let the brake go, and steered round it, or cadence braked, but in the time available, the brain did not work. Both me and the dog screamed at point of impact Laughing

On the plus side, it was relatively low speed by the time I hit, I reckon I was down to less than 10mph. The Transit's rear doors were pushed right in. I hit him square on so the force was evenly distributed across the back of the van. My Defender suffered a bent bumper, broken A bar brackets, crack in the grill surround and the spot lights were pushed through the grill. Luckily no paint or panel damage at all.

A new bumper and grill are needed, as are some Mantec brackets for the A bar. The grill surround will repair with some fibre glass and a spray of Oslo blue.

The thing with the most damage is my ego Laughing 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Lucky...(if you can call it that!) could have been worse as you say Thumbs Up

I have tested my ABS out twice in the last week...woman pulled out in front of me from a side road Mad and a white van in front of me slammed his brakes on becuase...yes...an old lady pulled out in front of him from a side road Rolling Eyes so braked and swerved again, I was sure i was going to swipe him, must have been inches away - PHEW!!

I have only ever needed ABS once on snow before which was pretty useless actually so I have always decried it but when it comes down to inches I think it must have helped!

George MIcheal did the same once when he tripped over naked and landed on a van driver on some common in London the other year.

When the accident lawyers come calling say that Lola has whiplash and see how excited they get before you break the news to them Whistle

Thanks matey, but I have already got a new one from Landranger in Stockport. Less than £50 for a brand new one makes it not worth mucking around with used ones. Thanks anyway Thumbs Up

Thanks to The Large One of Yeovil Land Rover for rapid delivery of other parts, and paint, so the TD5 will be mint again by Sunday. Cool

I've not heard from the Tranny driver yet though Confused I told my insurance company, and they say it will defo go down as a 'my fault' accident if he does claim. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

No problem, I shall return it to the hiding place in the long grass at work Very Happy

Having looked at the weather forecast for Monday a trip to Sheffield via the a6 may be a bad idea anyway

I'd say he's likely to claim if you pushed the doors in unless he's not legal, if he contacts you wanting cash I'd be very wary?
