Can suspension get harsher over time?

OK this may be a stupid question... but I have a 2003 TD5 90 and the ride is very harsh - every bump in the road nearly knocks your teeth out. Is it possible the suspension has become more harsh as it has degraded overtime and would a new set of shocks and dampers improve the situation?

Now I know I am not expecting it to be like a saloon car, but I don't remember my 200Tdi being so harsh - although that was 20 years ago - but the truck was brand new and I remember it being really comfortable.

Also I have checked tyre pressures and my new BFG AT's (265/75/16) made little difference over the original Grabbers.

No it gets softer, not harder. Result being that you end up with full travel and bumping at maximum.

shocks are dampers btw - you may need new springs and shocks. You'll get all kinds of recs but the best setup I've ever had on a 90 is Iron Man "B" springs and Iron Man foam cell shocks. Far Far cheaper than OME and Bilstein etc and for me, much better. It handled like a road car on tarmac, and beautifully planted offroad. Stiff enough but a nice ride.

I have exactly the same landy as you, even down to the colour and mine did the same. I have changed all the bushes and the shocks and its made it better but still too harsh. I will be changing the springs next and mybe some different shocks too. I think its also down to the anti roll bars being to big on the front, im trying to find a smaller one for the front but having trouble finding one so far.
