URGENT Tow Hitch Query
Hi All

Got a bit paranoid before a longer journey than normal tomorrow with the horse trailer.

Could you have a look at the photos and let me know if the one bolt in the hitch is what is required or whether there should be another bolt (or two) horizontally or vertically through the hitch?

My thought is that perhaps there's only one so that the hitch can pivot up and down on that bolt....? Am I being a gumby? Worried I may do more harm than good if I put another bolt on there

Thanks v much

Should be two bolts.
Make sure the heads are marked 'S' or 8.8

I would replace them both before i used that again as the broken one has probably overloaded the other one... you have been very lucky indeed. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Thanks guys

Should the extra bolt be next to thge current - ie horizontally through the hitch or vertically (there's a hole there too)?

There is a breakaway cable - just tucked back

I'll have Tony Bolwell sort it on Monday

Remove the existing bolt and take off the hitch.
You'll then (hopefully) see two holes through the drawbar.
These will show you where to fit the other bolt. Could be one horizontal and one vertical or both (most likely) horizontal
If the bar's been shortened and there is only one hole it should not be used.

I have the same type of hitch and the bolt goes in that vacant drilling and plese don't use mild steel bolts. Maybe your local caravan shop will have two for you along with two washers and nyloc nuts. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Exactly as said above, there should be 2 bolts and personally I'd put 2 new ones in
