30 or 60mm wheel spacers ?
Any thoughts on this folks ? Was looking to get some to gain a better stance with the 265/75/16 BFG AT's, but not sure which size to get.

Any Pictures would be great too Thumbs Up

Check with your insurers before buying either.
60mm has to be too much. You'll need extended wheel arches and a box full of spare wheel bearings.

Assuming standard wheels, to be honest I wouldn't bother with spacers at all with 265/75s but would (and do, 30mm) with 285/75s.

I would not attempt to use a 60mm spacer at all, since even with 265s it will put the tyre outside the wheelarch. With Boosts, 30mm spacers, and 285s, the tyre is legal *just*.

There are plenty of photos of various combinations of size, wheel, and space in the definitive wheel and tyre thread

Some insurance companies may be uptight about spacers but there is no reason why a set of properly engineered spacers from a reputable company should increase any risk associated with the vehicle (unless I suppose it makes it more attractive to thieves). The effect on handling and the loads on wheelbearings etc are no different to using a wheel with a different offset, and unless you go mad will not have a significant effect.

There are several other threads in this forum where spacers have been discussed thoroughly.

60mm will move the centreline of your wheels substantially out from the 'kingpin' and make your steering geometry rather odd. You'll probably get quite a bit of wheel-wobble at speed.

Recommend Rakeway as a supplier of 30mm spacers, very pleasant, very quick, good value, and superb quality.

What are you trying to achieve and why?

For instance your turning circle is dictated by several factors, and includes tyre diameter, tyre width, rim offset, stop lock adjustment etc.

Better stance? Do you mean wider wheel base for side slopes? Keeping weight as low as possible helps.

Put on spacers apart from the wheel bearing argument you will probably fall foul of MSA regulations if you want to do club level RTV. Then there is insurance company.

Extend the tyre tread outside of wheel flare then is it C & U regulations that you will be falling foul off if you do not extend your wheel flares.

Wider vehicle means less places it can go.

Was really just trying to get a better turning circle as the 110 is used as my daily driver and not so much offroad..

Problem is turning circle on a 110 daily driver?

Have used 110s as daily drives for 15 years and have felt no need for spacers

FORGET spacers for time being. Extra costs there, possible insurance implications, possible width problems.

Are current tyre/wheel combination rubbing on radius arms?

If not adjust steering lock

If just rubbing radius arms then consider the wheel offset. Must admit I can never remember which way the figures go for wheel offset to get best turning circle. Have your rims got best offset for turning?

Your current tyres have an OD of 31.6"

IIRC the steering geometry, for a given wheel offset smaller od and width tyre improves turning circle.

Also driving style helps depending on conditions. It is normally easier to reverse from a wide space into a narrow space, then to reverse out of a narrow space.

I've got 30mm spacers with Boosts and 265/75 AT2's and the turning circle is impressive. It's certainly tigher than my wifes' DII. Don't have any specific pics but the tread of the tyres is just covered by the wheel arches. Darren

You are extremely unlikely to have bearing issues withh 30mm spacers (after all WMIK and Snatch AFAIK use the same bearings with greater offset wheels and gross up to 6 tonnes or some such - nothing you do to your 110 is likely to come close).

You will notice a difference to the "feel" and handling but it won't be a problem. Your 265's won't come close to protruding from the arches; my 285s are close (on Boosts) but are ok.

If you haven't already done so, read the thread wheel spacers safety issue which covered the subject pretty well.

Bottom line, if you want them, fit them! It's your truck! You will improve the turning circle (you can orbit small planets instead of only big ones)!
