Watched the preview 'Road Book' episode this morning and it looks like LOTS of sand dunes this year, so may prove very interesting. They got moaned at last year for not being enough dunes so they have really gone for it this time! The route planning trips looked like awesome fun.

We got bored of the flat rocky tracks last year and pretty much stopped watching but will see how it goes this year.
Looking forward to seeing the Hummers again, both Robby 'a total star' Gordon and Nassah Al-Attiyar!

Very Happy

I've had a basic cable Virgin TV and internet package for about 18 months now (mostly Freeview channels with better reception than a set-top box but sadly no Eurosport), so decided last month to swap to Sky because I knew it included Eurosport. It was 90% for the Dakar but as the Olympics are on their way too, that would be a bonus.

Did a deal, as basic a package as possible that includes Eurosport. Finally, to swap 'er indoors had to phone Virgin back to say we are changing to Sky. They didn't like it one bit and almost pleaded to continue with them. The other half insisted, we have to have Eurosport and that was the main reason for swapping. The bloke said, "I'll just consult with my supervisor". Came back and said, if we stayed with Virgin, for no additional cost they would chuck in Eurosport - RESULT! Even better when I overheard all this and said, "if they throw in Discovery Channel as well, they've got a deal. They did - DOUBLE RESULT!!!

Moral of the story, if you don't ask ... Rolling Eyes

Spotted Laurie. Another reason to get Eurosport!

At this rate will any sport be shown on terrestial TV? Some will say that's a good thing no doubt, but whatever your view of sport on the box, it will mean shelling out yet more dosh ... that's a given! Sad

We have Sky, have had since the early 90s, when it was still FREE (yes, in those early days, Sky was FREE!, weird to think!)

We can't get Virgin as we don't have cable, so we are not in a position to negotiate a better deal with Sky, unfortunately.

In the early days, you didn't get Sky, you got a satellite receiver. Sky was just one of the contributors to the channels you could get. In those days we could get a couple of free movie channels, Sky News and some other general entertainment channels from various suppliers. There were 2 sports channels - free to air - Eurosport and Screensport. Screensport was fab as it showed lots of UK home motorsport, such as regional rally events, RallyCross etc.

Never even heard of the Dakar before we got that early satellite kit with Eurosport - But have been watching it ever since !

Back in the seventies and early eighties the Ted Toleman team were doing it in those 'new fangled' Range Rovers. Very Happy
There's still some good footage about.
