rear step
Sorry me again!

Santa bought me a rear step - supplied with 2 x bolts and washers and also 2 x black 'tube' bolts with hexagonal .

I went to fit it today and it looks as though there has been a previous step fitted and poorly removed or bumped at some stage as the hexagonal holes in the chassis were a bit mashed up.

Managed to flatten the holes in the chassis but do the black 'tube' bolts slot down through the holes and thus sit nice and flush in the hexgonal holes with their hexagonal heads?

OR do I have to dislocate my fingers and try and hold the bolts inside the chassis whilst holding the step and with my third hand tighten the bolts?

Hope that makes sense?!

Not the step I got but same bolts supplied which hopefully helps my description.

cheers

Hi churchy,

As I can see in the package offered the Hex tube nut are a rivet nuts. So you need to install it in the rear cross member with a "special" tool after following the instruction sheet.
Those should be installed in the new ones but as you described appears to be smashed by the previous owner (also happened to me Embarassed ). I replace it by normal nuts and all going OK.

Anyway, If I remember well, AndrewS post some time ago the DIY tool to put those rivet nut.

Cheers! Eduardo

Interesting,

My rear step was smashed by other car around 2 years ago. Most of the damage was the rivnuts.
I replace it by common nuts but if a plate is available, probably will be better.

Cheers Eduardo

Fitting a strenthening plate and using normal washers and bolts crossed my mind yesterday when I was trying to fit it.

A simple bolt on job seems to be escalating slightly.....
