Short term, a tin of silicon spray on anything that moves(or does but shouldn't) or just strap a child in all the time, just take them out at feeding time  |

Have a closer look at the exhaust manifold studs, my TD5 gave exactly the same symptoms as you describe and the studs on #1 and one on #5 had snapped. |

When they do wear wellingtons, they're usually Dunplop Navvies Wellingtons(Short and the sides roll down) as they're allergic to animal skin linings........they are vegetarian after all.  |

Don't spend a fortune on fancy paint, get some in a bucket/tin and put some sharp sand in and brush it on thick. Let it dry and hey presto non slip paint which is not going to break the bank to repair ... |
