But I guess not in a Puma with the extensive plastic trim preventing the seat backs from mounting flush?

Should be an expansion gap all around the perimeter of the room, normally concealed under the skirting board which should lightly sit on top of the flooring.

I'll answer my own question.
Looks like easier to replace the whole fuel pipe assembly - tank to filter.
Around £50, just need to talk to supplier to verify PN, but looks like it might be lr031344

One of these wired into the back of the 12v lighter socket, fused the routed up the side of the windscreen, under the headlining and out just above the mirror for my dashcam.
