It's the alarm and immobiliser module. Whatever you do, don't chop all of the wires. I did, and had to re-wire both solenoids, and now the alarm does not work at all.

2003 onwards is quite safe, as long as it isn't ultra low mileage, with infrequent servicing. The higher mileage ones actually seem to do better. TD5 doesn't like to sit around all day. |

Cheers. The TD5 ones are a white plastic screw-on round nut that retains them, which is exactly the same as my VDO ones I've got... |
