It could have been a fire hazard, but not any more, the wires were disconnected at the plug and sealed, so there's no chance of anything getting through.

UPDATE!!
Had the unit checked out today and it turned out to be the right rear + speaker wiring that was at fault, as I don't have any speakers in the back, the wires were disconnected, and all back ... |
