There were very few 2.5 petrol engines fitted to Defenders.

I believe you could order one in the UK for a short while in the first couple of years of Defender, but few were sold.

I have a 1984 factory, civilian soft-top Ninety.

(These were only available from the factory under special order - most you see are later conversions or ex-military).

Land Rover never called them Turbo Diesels, as that was reserved for the diesel engine in the Range Rover.

Picture shows the wear after 30 years.

Could only find one replacement that guaranteed to fit an old Model 55.
(Using a part number found online).
