in the example above, the stiffness of the side sheeting is replaced by the cupboard... so it's still there
it you really make a hatch to access the full inside of the seatbox, you will lose stiffnes ... |

Stiffness is what you should watch out for - the seat box gets it's stiffnes fromm the sheeting
If you cut a hole in it or remove a part all together to add a drawer or hatch it will have an effect
