Couldn't find the thread where this vehicle was mentioned previously.
 Click image to enlarge It was a concept but now going into production. "We won’t see it before 2023 the earliest and the report says it will be a capable off-road machine. If you stretch your imagination enough, you can think of it as a more affordable and unconventional rival of the Land Rover Defender. Obviously, it’ll be significantly smaller and lifestyle-oriented but in its very basic concept, the idea is similar. These could be interesting, because although the ID3 looks capable & worthy, it also looks really dull!

The thing with “dull” is that a lot of people don’t like “look at me” styling so dull appeals - look how popular the Dacia Duster is - no frills, dull as ditchwater, low selling price and sold by the shipload. Same with most Suzuki’s. I'm sure you're right, Tim - it's just that the ID3 would be a contender to replace our Golf - but watching the reviews it just seems really plain, the interior in particular. Not saying a Golf is exactly exciting, but the ID3 would feel like a step down. I guess they are trying hard to reach a price-point (and it shows), but some design flair would have gone a long was to make up for some cheap materials. The ID4 might be more appealing. |

I get what you are saying. One of the YouTube EV channels that I follow recently test drove an iD3 (it might have been Johnny Smith’s Car Pervert channel) and said exactly what you say, great idea but dull and interior materials are a quality that helps keep the price down. It’s built at the old Trabant factory.......... Yes, watched Jonny's review & the one from Autogefuhl (don't think Bjorn has covered it yet).
Contrast the ID3 to say the Honda E, which although the E is way overpriced for it's capabilities, the design & materials make it special. If it was a bit bigger, and a bit cheaper (ID3 size/price) it would be a winner. I'm hopeful the other ID offerings from VW are more exciting. |

"The electric off-roaders aren't happening. A production version of the Volkswagen ID Buggy always seemed like a dubious prospect because it was such a niche product. Now, VW CEO Brandstätter has confirmed that the rugged model wasn't happening. “No, we won’t do this car. We had a partner, but in the end, it didn’t work out,” Brandstätter told Autocar. VW intended to partner with the German company e.Go Mobile to build the Buggy as a low-volume, niche vehicle. However, e.Go Mobile went into bankruptcy, which ended plans for the collaboration. When the project died, VW began brainstorming a more mainstream, yet still off-road-oriented, electric crossover. It tentatively went under the name Ruggdzz, and the company was planning for a 2023 launch. The execs have now pushed back this undertaking, too. "We’ve put it in the drawer," Brandstätter told Autocar. "That is not to say it won’t be built, but I don’t think you’ll see it soon.
