With the pre 02 Mudstuff rear door card I believe that it is not possible to fit the version 2 gas strut.

Yes it does apply to the version 1 as well. Have spoken to Faye at Mud and she confirmed my memory. Apparently it is possible but it involves 'trimming' the door card.
