The bolt on the Negative terminal is alas too short to take the Earthing block, so I guess I have three choices:

1. Find a longer T bolt to allow extra hight to attach the earth block direct. (Sitting with a file, bench grinder etc for half an hour doesn't appeal right now...) Cool
2. Fit a flatter ring connector spur and then connect the earth block to that. They are thinner than the Blue Sea block.
3. Change the battery connector cable to something more flexible.

I probably need to look at my main earthing points anyway as she doesn't start instantly.

The first stage was fairly straightforward. Fits well now I have swapped the connections on the Positive terminals.

For the time being I've added a Halfrauds spur to the top of the connector. It is an M6 bolt, a nut may complain at the top of the thread but goes on securely.

Rather than rush it I have temporarily mounted the negative block with some cable ties to the battery handles.

Gives me time to have a think. Of course you could just fasten the earths to the ring...

DRLs are once again running. Gives me a chance to figure out why they had been disconnected!

Now to think about best cable routes from engine bay to battery box. At present for testing they come in through the passenger footwell.

The typical Puma battery connectors need to be loosened and then tapped down with a socket or flathead screwdriver and small persuader before you begin to tighten them. 2001 Defender Special Vehicles TD5 Hardtop (Ex Scottish an Southern) Side Lockers, Side Hatches - Poorly chassis and bulkhead. Perhaps take the ground from the chassis rail factory ground point, then back up, and mount on seat box wall?
Or use a different ground clamp, with multiple outputs and then mount on the seatbox wall.
As it’s a ground you could use a super strength acrylic adhesive pad if you didn’t want to affix it permanently.

Just a couple of ideas, not sure if these suggestions are any use but the factory ground clamp is a fickle thing. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
