TD5 tacho install
Just about to fit the Discovery Cruise control kit from Empire to my 110 TD5 and I thought I might fit a tacho as it has the wiring already available in the kit. Will any tacho do? I notice the Durite ones have a 4/6/8 cylinder option via a switch on the back. Sadly not a 5 cylinder option. Any experts throw some light on this? Thanks 2004 TD5

Most will do as they just take any reasonable frequency signal to move the needle. Ideally you pick up from the ECU (neater) but you can take the sine signal from the alternator also. You can typically play with the dip switches at the back and a little pot meter inside (small screw driver) to calibrate. If you calibrate to idle (800rpm?) you get pretty close for what you normally use a tach (changing gears)

But it is possible the one you buy is out of range and you can't get it to work right. There is a risk. Take a Diesel one as it is more flexible and also the scale does not go too high as you don't have that many RPM to play with.

Thank you very much for the info. Fun Saturday coming up! I do quite a few miles in the Defender and the cruise control should make a big difference I hope. Tacho is also useful. Thanks again. 2004 TD5
