Hi all,
Bit of last minute Xmas shopping advice needed... I'm looking for a great spanner set that is suited to a (2.4L) puma. I have the odd useful spanner (13mm, 18mm) but do the big things (my spare wheel uses 26 & 27mm nuts) with wrenches etc. Does anyone have a quality set they'd recommend? I don't particularly want to go hardcore (torque wrenches) unless anybody says I'm absolutely missing out. Thanks! |

Halfords is a good call. I have one of their 180+ sets of spanners and sockets and they have been excellent over the past decade. Cannot fault them. Plus if you break a torx bit just pop back into Halfords and they will replace it FOC under the warranty

Another one here for Halfords own brand gear.

As said above, I have the Halfords professional range and can't fault it. But working on my 2.4 110, I have found there are a few bolts/nuts which are not metric. So I bought the below and has served me well.

another one for Halfords, join the motoring club or get a trade card for really good discounts and cheap MOTs virtually pay for the club card DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

another for Halfords,
I've been abusing my set for 15 years and its still going strong. I've got a few other brands to supplement it, mostly Gearwrench and Facom flexi neck ratchets that make a huge difference. The Halfords torque wrenches are also outstanding value, I have a 0-60 and 60-200. If you want cheaper but decent power stuff, then I'd recommend Kielder Tools, I've got their high torque impact gun, its nearly as good as my Milwaukee stuff but lacks the range and versatility but the cost saving is massive. I kept the Kielder one in the tool kit in the Defender. |

If the Halfords stuff doesn't suit, I like Facom as reasonably priced good quality spanners. Ratchet spanners are very useful too, but start with a full set of standard ones first. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Nothing wrong with the Halfords tools, I would definitely recommend them, but to throw another into the mix, Wera Joker spanner’s are very nice, if a bit expensive.

If I was starting from scratch I would go with Wera, they are my default now whenever I need something new.
But what I have left of my halfords stuff that I bought nearly 35 years ago is still doing well. I would keep away from Clarke and Pro Tool unless you want something cheap for a specific job that you will never use again. |

If your in the UK look at Halfords but looking at your location it might not be available to you. I would look at Beta or Facom both often available on deals and half decent quality for the money. I have both in my workshop alongside Halfords Pro and Snap On and they all undo and tighten fasteners admirably

From Switzerland so might not be that helpful, but I've found Proxxon to produce decent quality for a fair price: spanners (slim line, very handy) and socket sets. Same goes for Famex (big socket set), but only for their top line.
screwdrivers, hex wrenches, bits, punches and especially dampened rubber malelts honestly only PB Swiss Tools in my workshop. Nothing else. They do cost a lot but they offer a lifetime warranty and their quality beats eveything I have owned so far. Was never a fan of Wera screwdrivers: don't like the handle and the tips are of inferior quality compared to PB. For everything else I buy cheap quality first. Whatever breaks seems to get used a lot and is replaced by whatever best quality I can source. /just re-read your post, sorry didn't realize you had very specific requirements. Saldy the Proxxon slim line spanner set ends at 19 but you can get bigger sizes individually. That's the route I would go but luckily I came across a box full of used Hazet spanners and they are pretty decent! |
