NO ONE WILL INSURE A 2016 DEFENDER!!! PLEASE READ
2016 Defender Crew Cab with mods. 15 years NCB. Age 50+ - No nasties at all with driving history or with my license and I CANNOT GET INSURED from the following:

ADRIAN FLUX
LANCASTER
ACORN
NFU
LAND ROVER INSURANCE.

Was told by someone from NFU when I called them for a quote that they do not touch defenders because of keyless entry issues- I informed him that my classic defender doesn’t have keyless entry. He then went on to say “ we cannot quote on any Defender”.

What the hell is going on?

Does anyone know any insurance broker who will cover me?

I think you need to give NFU another try as my Defender and Range Rover were both covered this year with no hassle. My 2002 Defender was only £350 a year to insure.

I am insured by Lancaster, they are Landy specialists.

In this months LRM magazine Lancaster, Adrian Flux and Graham Sykes are all advertising specialist LR insurance.

Something not quite right in what you are being told... I'd try them again. TD5 hardtop to Puma inspired Poptop - my build thread

And if you Google 'classic land rover insurance' all the above and more are listed so there's definitely something odd going on TD5 hardtop to Puma inspired Poptop - my build thread

NFU will insure new Defenders with keyless entry, they just charge for it.

I was quoted £4200 for mine two weeks ago. I stayed with Admiral at £2600 despite it being double my existing premium £1300, it was still the cheapest and nothing had changed in our personal circumstances. Comparison websites were from £6k -£7k. Shocked

I'd double check they got the right. It seems odd Thumbs Up Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

I think it may well be a Postcode issue for you.

Thanks for the reply. They have already told me point blank - over the phone - I CAN RUN YOU A QUOTE BUT I DO NOT WANT TO WASTE YOUR TIME AS WE CANNOT INSURE A 2016 DEFENDER.

I never even got to the stage of giving them any of my personal details about where I live etc, or what the details of the mods are on the car.

It's an absolute shambles.

Maybe wait until 1 month before your renewal date and see if you get a letter like I did to say "sorry but they can no longer insure you this year". When nothing at all had changed from my side.

Thanks for the reply. Yes. I've also been trying the "classic insurance" route, as I only do less than 5,000 miles, however, Footman James (which I now need to add to my list of declined quotes) told me a MY 2016 is not a Classic car in their eyes.

Have you tried Admiral? As well as my Defender, they insured my 17 year old daughter in a 2008 Discovery 3 and 22 year old daughter in a 2018 Discovery Sport which has keyless entry. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

I wonder if there is something specific with the very last of the Defenders that is causing the problem?

If you don't get as far as giving your postcode and claims history then the underwriting system is kicking you out right at the beginning purely based on the vehicle..

Call one of them back and say you have a 2012 vehicle to see if you get further... If you do you can just hang up. It might at least help to pinpoint the issue. TD5 hardtop to Puma inspired Poptop - my build thread
