Off-Road Capability
Whilst I went on an off-road experience with LR before buying my 110, the experience of taking it off-road on byways open to all traffic in mid-Wales this weekend was astonishing.

This vehicle is unbelievable! It took everything in its stride. Hardly a wheel spin; rocks, rivers, steep uphills, grand scenery. I was blown away with its capabilities.

I was in Wales earlier in the year, some great lanes and never had a problem with all the lanes we tackled, this should be a video of the Bomb Hole on Strata Florida

I did have a to recover a D3 that followed me through when he got his swing away wheel carrier hooked on a rock in the bottom Confused Cheers Ian

I did a full day at the scottish experience centre - stunning location, and what an estate to get to play around on.

Some of the trails this thing was scrambling up were incomprehensible. Basically 30 degree loose boulder fields.. truly impressive.

I’ve got mine stuck a few times!! On a grassy, wet, rutted muddy incline, it’s exactly the same place my old 90 would get stuck as well. That was a manual with ATB diffs, so I’m quite impressed that the new one is the equal of it.

I went to the Destination Defender event a few months back and done it in the 90 on coils. No fancy off road packs only the ediff. Phenomenal car, even on the coils it went where the air suspension cars went though needed more driver involvement.

It was actually Autocars long term loan car.

Glad you enjoyed it Thumbs Up

Although technically it is all on roading being as they are part of the Kings Highway. Nothing green lane should phase a Defender though. Many lanes can be driven in a car if you know what you are doing. And certainly passable in any standard 4x4. Only thing really to watch is the size of the current model. Some of the lanes can get pretty narrow, tight and scratchy.

As for overall off rod capability. The platform is very capable and has good approach and departure angles. But does rely heavily on its traction systems to make progress. I’d image should you ever get an error where the tcs no longer functioned, it would make hard work of many simple obstacles. Thankfully such errors seem to have been exceedingly rare since the Terrain Response System introduction with the D3.

l've found my base specification Defender 90 is very impressive off road.

The main issue l have is the width of the vehicle. l struggle to get to some of my customers on farms where my old Defender had no issues.

lt also seems to struggle a bit in mud, most likely because of the weight. Our Jimny is best for that as it is so light it doesn't sink as much.

Got my 2 week old Defender bogged down to the sills in a muddy field the other day pulling a water bowser. My property and something I have done many times, when I got the D5 stuck in a similar way it took a tractor to free it. 5 minutes of playing around in the Defender and it got itself out. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Different tyres on the D5? As the traction control is the same on the Defender as it the suspension. Only the bodywork is slightly different with the D5 have worse approach/departure angles.

While the TR programs are very clever the car is still jolly good if you just leave it in comfort mode, select low range, use command shift sequential gear changes and used HDC if necessary. It will work fine offroad without needing TR on the Pivi Pro screen if that has failed for some strange reason. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Both All Terrain

I would argue the chassis set-up and suspension on the Defender have the edge on the D5 for off-road. Software is the same but it was able to raise its self much better. I also noted the RR gets itself across slippery fields much better than the D5 did and that's a much heavier PHEV. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE
