United Kingdom 1999 Defender 110 Td5 SW Caledonian Blue
Oil on turbo to intercooler pipe
While under the bonnet of the 110 earlier today, I spotted oil on the putside of the turbo to intercooler pipe. This was cleaned the other week when I removed the pipes, but oil has returned.
The oil return hose from the turbo is clean.

Not sure were the oil has come from. More investigation required when the rain has gone and darkness is not here! 1999 Defender TD5 110

Probably be from the crank case breather.

Cheers. I guess it could be from the PCV valve. I will break out the cleaning spray and a cloth and see what I can find. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I think they’re service items….
When my pcv was blocked, I also had oil on top of the rocker box

Oil filter is nice and snug with no excess oil on the filter. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Was the oil a slick or just a residue on the silicone hose?

Eventually the silicone hose can become porous and ooze oil under pressure. This happened to Miffys previous set of silicone hoses. c. 10 years old.

Hi Guy, More of a light misting really and they are a few years old. I wonder if it is as simple? 1999 Defender TD5 110

It could be. I had a chat with Garry at Alive about it and he told me that when it happens you get a light covering of oil, sometimes a defined droplet or two. It does not drastically affect performance, just makes things greasy. I swapped out the hoses, problem cured.

My PCV caused a misting, and a small pool on top of the rocker were the breather connects. My hoses were only 12 months old so made it easy. Plus a pcv is only a few ££
