2.2 or 2.4 ? and other questions
Followiing on from another thread I posted about comfort levels on the new TDCi, I am near the point of going for a new 90.

I have just had a call from the (apparently) only L-R salesman from the only dealer here, and he seems to share my concerns about the DPF on the new 2.2 for use in Jersey He reckoned that it may still be possible to get a 2.4 and is going to phone around.

I understand that the 2.2 is more refined than the 2.4 - one of the reasons that I fancy a TDCi in the first place. But are there any other reasons that MY2012 is preferable to MY2011?

As an aside I went to the showroom and they had a 110 XS there - but no salesman to ask questions of - so managed to have an uninterrupted look around it.

There was no plastic wheel arch protection fitted at the front, are these now omitted?

Has the chassis painting changed recently?, this one seemed to have a near gloss black finish not the satin I am used to.

(I have had a search but apologies if this has been covered before)

Brian

chassis is barely painted or anything else now days, so colour has changed, mostly due to lack of underseal!

i would be tempted to stay clear of anything with a DPF that doesnt get out and about for sustained periods. For jersey (30mph tops?) i wouldnt be buying a vehicle with a DPF.

on the other hand you can remove them! Cheers

I faced the small dilemma last month.. Went for the 2.4 110 XS Utility and very happy with it... I got a great deal and easily saved enough to pay for my fuel for the next couple of years... Smile

I think this is in reference to the 2.2 being fitted with a noise blanket/cover as standard.
It said this in the original marketing blurb.

Thanks guys,

If the rumoured additional refinement of the 2.2 is down to an engine blanket then that would seem to be a bit of a non-event as I will fit a Noisekiller kit anyway.

Find someone with a 2.2 transit and ask them if the DPF have shagged itself in Jersey as it's the same engine.

That's exactly what I've asked the Dealer to do.

Right I have just had the salesman on the phone about the 2.2 DPF issue.

He has told me that the 2.2 is the same engine as in the Freelander 2 and they are not having problems with the DPF on those. Now it is my understanding that it is not - unless the 2.2 engine in the F2 is also a Transit engine?

When I queried it he says "that is what he was told by Landrover"

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Wrong - the 2.2 engine is NOT the PSA DW12 from the Freelander 2, it is a Ford Puma TDCi. The same basic engine as before.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
