Aftermarket Headlights
Good Evening,

This evening i noticed one of our aftermarket headlights stopped working? Main lights work. But DRL Halo running light isn't, and the same Halo indicator isn't working.

I have had it all to bits , but it's a sealed unit ... is there a possibility that the bulb it the Halo has gone ?

Cheers[/i]

Hello

Just checking that there was a good connection to the indicator and side lights where the power and signal to the DRL/Indicator comes from?!

The way you tap into those wires can make the difference between a good connection and an intermittent one.

From what I can see there is a red wire from the headlight that controls the DRL and a green wire for the Halo indicator. The normal indicator is working OK?

Os ot worth buying a new set ?

Ok. So the Indicator and DRL work on 12v so run a test wire to the wires in turn and see whether the headlight unit does what it is supposed to.

If that does not work then it looks like those features have died. Is it worth getting a new set? Depends whether you can live with just the main and high beam features and the usual defender indicators.

If you cannot then yes buy a new set. My personal preference is for Trucklites or JW Speaker LED headlights because they work and keep on working.

OK Thank-you so much for replying, I may sound daft here but where would I run a 12 v test from? Might be best to het an auto electrician ronhave a quick look.

If you are a novice then yes get an auto electrician out to have a look. There is no point (unless you are a keen bean that is) stressing yourself out and risking a short circuit or worse. As they say safety first.

I think it's actually illegal to have halo indicators as well as the original front indicators. Section 7 Part 11 of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations (1989):

"Requirements relating to optional direction indicators

1. No vehicle shall be fitted with a total of more than one front indicator nor more than two rear indicators, on each side
."

Perhaps your headlamp is trying to save you!
