According to the news today, the UK government is to issue prospecting licences for oil/gas in the North Sea. I presume this means the end of the 2030 deadline for ICE cars as there is not much sense in producing oil and gas and not using it. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Does anything they do make sense??
The high court just having ruled as legal the expansion of the ulez, meaning that over 250,000 residents will now have to pay to drive on the roads in the outer suburbs of London, basically everything inside the M25 because their diesels are not euro 6 or their petrols not euro whatever.. a vehicle that is 6 years old is hardly “old”  “a committee is a group of people who individually can do nothing, but as a group decide nothing can be done.” |

We send our crude to Europe to process, then buy it back. This is - whilst not getting rid of fossil fuels- definately a better way than importing fuels from the Saudis..
unfortunately we still need fossil fuels until renewables/ synthetic fuels are de rigeur, might as well be making it ourselves.. a misnomer is that it will reduce the prices, it simply is in too small an amount to affect the overall prices, we do use all the North Sea gas though, goes straight into the grid. To me this makes sense, especially since all the nonsense pulled by Russia last year. Even while we are working to phase them out, whilst we are still using fossil fuels we may as well dig it up locally rather than be held to ransome by a cartel and shipping it half way around the world. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

It's about energy security. Governments are waking up to the fact that a global economy is also fragile. A global economy is cheaper so we will have to trade some of our wealth for security.
The environmental thing is just a side show. The sacrifices we would need to make to safe humanity would be so severe no government could take that on and survive and they know it. |

We only import about 4% Russian fuel so it’s hardly about ‘security’ and likely more to do with Risky Rishi’s apparent investments, etc……

It’s nothing to do with energy security as it will be sold on the open market at the global price. Us citizens will see almost zero benefits from this deal. I also wonder if the uk will be contributing to the cost of setting these new facilities up as last time they asked for massive government help.
Then there’s the who Infosys deal makes everything a bit more murky than before. |
