Decoding a VIN
Has some one got a link so I can decode my VIN. I have a Defender SW 5 door 2010 110 2.4 6 speed box, and on all the sites this car does not exist, or gives some weird information. I'm sure they have just not updated the codes, as the letters do not go far enough. It's doing my head in trying to buy spares, as they quote VIN's which I'm trying to understand.

I'm trying to buy new UJ's for the front and rear propshafts. So what do I choose from here?

https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/propshafts--joints-10925-c.asp

This is what I have : - SALLDHMS7BA******

S = Europe
A = UK
L = British Leyland/Land Rover
LD = Land Rover 90,110,127,130,147,Defender
H = Defender 110in & 147in
M = Defender 5 door station wagon,Range Rover Classic 5 door, Range Rover P38 5 door, Discovery 5 door
S = ???
7 = States 5 speed when I have a 6 speed fitted??
B = 1984-88?? This is not right
A = Solihull

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
John

Are you sure the S is not an 8?

It's definitely a "S" and not an "8". I went and checked the actual VIN in the windscreen and it shows a "S".

The year code has been 'around the clock' so B is both 1985-87 and 2011. Similarly, the gearbox code of 7 represents 5 speeds, 6 speeds and even 8 speed auto depending on the year. Darren
