The 1982 event was held in Papua New Guinea and the competing vehicles were the two door Range Rover Classic.
Apparently the words of advice given to the competitors was that if you hit a pig, keep driving as the locals value them so much they would kill you……Sounds fair..

Ooh a Beddy Atlas.... I used to crew one of these years back. the crane was dead handy for, ahem, engine changes, lifting engines out of dads boat, and numerous other tasks (when swapped for a slab of beer for "borrowing" it and bodging the works ticket  )
