Agreed I gave up using bow-saws along time ago for work, they are bulky to store and to get into many spaces at the right angle to cut. They also make harder work of a cut - Ive cut through 10' Ash trees before now with a hand saw type below, a bow saw would be hard work - tried it many times before
 A curved blade makes a hell of a difference  It's all in the blade, my best tool for my gardening work, brilliant thing, got me out of some tricky spots when the chain saw wouldn't hack it!
These hand saws are great I have used a Wolf one for work for 5 years now and only got through two blades - only £20

I'm a tree surgeon and we use them all the time. A Zubat is the best compromise but be careful, they bite!

I have used Zubats for years and wouldn't now even consider any other hand saw for greenwood - Silky Fox saws simply cannot be bettered. The Zubat was of course designed as a climber's saw.
If you go down the Silky Fox route, remember that more tree-surgeons end up in hospital as a result of Silky injuries that chainsaw injuries; these saws can be very, very dangerous if carelessly used. If a Zubat jumps out of the cut and lands on your hand it will down to the bone before the blade stops. Treat it with respect and it will serve you well. A professional quality tool designed for professionals. |
