Will the Defender go to D350?
Since RRS has this engine I am wondering if a new model Defender will sport an upgraded powerplant?

l imagine you could theoretically "chip" or remap the D300 if it wasn't fast enough for you, the ZF transmission will certainly take the power.

As you say, the 3.0 diesel develops 350bhp in some versions of the new Range Rover. l
wonder if you can remap that version! Then you'd be looking at 400bhp, quite some output from a 3.0 diesel

l remember the days when 100bhp per litre was considered about as far as you could go.

Yes a remap would be possible but I am interested in OME upgrade potential.

I don't see the advantage. What do you really gain over a D250?

I have the D300 and while it has ample power, I've been looking at remaps/chiptuning to get that little extra that turns it from "powerful enough" into fast.

https://tdi-tuning.com/en-gb/car/land-rove...0/products

Have been considering this. It seems normal remaps are very hard on the new defender as none of my usual tuners have anything available yet. Not sure if anyone has any experience with these tuning boxes?

378 horsepower and 754NM would put it on par with the P400 in straight acceleration and much faster during highway passing maneuvers.

I would trade in my D300 for the P510e if they would put that new engine in the Defender immediately. The P400e was a stupid idea with a 4-cylinder and very limited hybrid/electric range.

Because when the engine could have been a D350 from day one its like pouring water into a glass of 18 year old Laphroaig Laughing

l guess it depends on your idea of what is "fast"

l think my D250 is fast. Not fast in the same way as my Ferrari was, but l wouldn't want the Defender to perform like a Ferrari.

My friends Tesla is fast. lnsanely fast, as well documented. When l borrowed it for a few days, l had to return it before l lost my license.

The acceleration was so instantaneous that if you sneezed while driving it, you'd be doing an extra 30mph before the snot hit the windscreen.

My D200 is fast, and pulls trailers like they’re not even there. The idea of someone with a D300 finding it not powerful enough blows me away.

To answer the OP’s question though - I doubt we’d see a D350 defender as they’ll want to retain the exclusivity for the Range Rover. Got to justify it being twice the price somehow.

Crumbs I have 395hp and that's a low figure. 0-60 has been measured as low as 4.7sec but 5sec is a typical figure. It pegs out at 153mph.

Its replacement, which is now available, has "495hp" although I'm unsure how 313hp + 197hp = 495hp.

Its the way of the world at the moment. Whistle

I am interested in Torque as I tow a large off road van. Currently Have SDV8 which is great and best of all don't have all the traffic passing as I climb hills. I am in no hurry to change but would prefer a power plant designed for the extra performance if it ended up being available in the near future.

It would make more sense to have an additional engine option D350 than to continually faff around with the various obscure trim levels (I'm looking at you: X-dynamics, Xs, XSs..)

Maybe all the power increases will now be battery assist, keeps fuel and emissions lower.

No more RRS’s then? Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!
