Battery issues I think...
Good evening peoples.

Got a new problem i think, there's some great info on here, but I'm not sure if my issue is the same as others have posted, so thought I'd ask...

So.... twice now, the truck hasn't wanted to start... and both times was when I had the stereo running while on my lunch break at work(engine off) & several weeks apart...(first time, it was on for a while(I was watching YouTube-sound through the stereo)& second time round I had some music on, it wasn't on that long, maybe 10-15mins).
Thankfully I carry a battery jump pack, which I used both times to get the truck started. On the way home, the in car voltmeter was just over 13v. (Which info on here said it could be the alternator..) But I've just fired it up again, it's started great, and while I moved my truck to the yard, the voltmeter was over 14v. Which tells me it's fine...

So I'm reckoning I may need a new battery? What's the collective think?

And if I do need a battery - what's the best these days? (I do run several things from the battery - but when the ignition is off, nothing runs)

Thanks for reading, looking forward to hearing your thoughts. 🙏🏻 Regards
Adam

When you say hasn’t wanted to start, did it just “click”?

Often the Td5 starters do this as they start to fail. Getting more and more frequent.

Yeah that's it!, just lots of quick session clicks. The dash lights/stereo, heated seats etc come on...

It is weird it's only when I've used the stereo on my lunch.
I have a trickle charger at home, so last time and last night I put it on to charge up the battery.

I'll keep an eye on that then(starter motor), and get one ordered in the meantime. Or can I get a rebuild kit? Regards
Adam

I had the intermittent click with mine, I ended up installing this kit and the problem was solved:

I could try it several times and eventually it would take and start which led me away from thinking it was a battery fault.

If you suspect the battery might be dead, if there is not enough voltage then the solenoid will sit and click/almost vibrate which a new battery will hopefully solve.

Starter repair kits
A famous "click" has finaly come to visit me... Sad

Is there any difference between various starter repair kits available (DA5240, Red Bison, X8R,...)?

Thanks!

I fixed the issue when I had it with the X8R kit and had no problems after. Getting to the top bolt on the starter is a bit tricky and requires some patience. I didn’t refit it and run with just the two main bolts that are easily accessible,
Good luck
