Pay & play day over Christmas
Been looking for stuff to do whilst I'm kicking round my folks' house over Christmas (Cambs/Essex border). Stumbled across a pay 'n' play day at Tixover quarry on the 31st, which is a good date.

Question is: will it be any good? I've done a fair bit of greenlaning and I'm not over-precious about the landy, but to be honest I get plenty of opportunity to drive through 3ft deep puddles here, so that doesn't really interest me. Steep stuff and humpy bits on the other hand would be splendid. Worth the bother? Bearing in mind I don't have a winch. Plenty of recovery gear, but we'd only have one Landy.

Alternatively if anyone has any better suggestions... I'm also planning to fully explore the area's greenlanes, so any suggestions of good/bad/ugly would be appreciated.

If you want a nice entry in to pay & play stuff try Ash 4 x 4 at Hawkstone Park, Shropshire.

Tixover is good Smile

Me and my dad did a experience level 2 there in a standard 110 and if driven sensibly you should not cause any damage Smile it has everything from rock crawling to water and mud Smile

Hope this helps.

Ah, I see. Yes, it's a scambling venue, but not on the same part of the park.

Where exactly are you staying?

North Cambridgeshire has a lot of green lanes, many are difficult and i would not do alone, 12ft ditches on either side!!

You have Thetford forest not far away with masses of lanes, but not overly challenging, but worth a green lane run with a few others.

There is also an off Road course in Chelmsford, not sure what it is called?

The terrain is all a little flat in this part of the world. so you may not find it very challenging.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like Tixover may be worth checking out then, ta.

I'm staying in a wee village fairly near Saffron Walden. Done a few of the lanes round there previously and they tended to be flat, wet and covered in sloppy chalk - not that there's anything wrong with that!

Not really looking for terrifying stuff, more just a relaxing drive to er, work off the Christmas pud. So thanks, I will avoid north Cambs Shocked
