My puma 2008
Brought my first Defender home today! It's a puma 2.4 2008 with 200.000kms.
There will be quite a few things to fix but I love it already!! First day driving it, I took a break on the way home to take some pictures, and I could not get the key to turn anymore... Had to go get some oil to the next village to try to fix it, glad someone gave me a ride haha.. And It worked!

Here come the 1st pictures

The grey Bosch relay and the metal cased relay are non original. Evidence of overheated terminal on grey Bosch relay.

Some kind of bodgery going on with the wire stuffed into the black relay socket and feeding the fuse. There’s an additional 25A fuse in the right in a separate holder that is also non original.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

That’s a really nice Defender 👍

Just looking at the fuse box photo, I agree with Martin’s observations.

I haven’t got a Puma so can’t really tell for sure, but would you expect that lower steel frame in the fuse box photo to be so rusty? Is that a sign of previous water ingress?

PS I know you’ll have a list of jobs to do, but you may want to look at your wiper wheelbox/spindles etc. in due course 👍

Yes it looks as though both wipers are not aligned.

Looks like a fun job to do. I'll make sure to find out what else to change in the same time.

It appears to be a link between the output of the relay which then feeds the wiper, electric windows and heated seat fuses [C3416L], and the blower fan fuse [F45].

Question is - why?

Is it fixing the fan or the other items.... so do your wipers, elec windows and heated seats work in key position 1 (first click), or does the fan not work in position 1, and only in position 2 (second click when the dashboard cluster powers up)?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I will check tomorrow and come back to you. I can open and close the windows without ignition, radio stays on as well, not sure what is normal and what isn't. (I mean without the key even on, or when I turn off the engine) Should the headlights stay on as well? I know it use to be the norm back in the days, but 2008, not sure. Making my Defender great again. (Or trying to at least xD)

Somebody's been playing with the electrics, definitely.

Fan and radio should work in position 1 or position 2.

Electric windows and head lamps should only work in position 2.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
