What do you want it for? Garmin do tracking and corrective / containment solutions now. I've used Garmin equipment for tracking when shooting over setters and pointers in Norway and it worked very well, not one issue with it over 4 days, two dogs being tracked. It set off an alert on the handheld if the dog stopped on point and gave clear directions (it was mountainous, with lots of scrub and the dogs could be up to half a mile a way).

So once you get the dog to swallow the tracker, won't it just poo it straight back out after a couple of days?
I suppose you have to pick it out of the afore mentioned, clean it down and repeat? Seems a lot of faff

Apple Air Tags are small and discreet and can be hung from their collar. Battery lasts a year and theres no ongoing service charges

Airtag's aren't so good for tracking pets anywhere rural - for longer distances, they rely on the proximty of somebody else having an iPhone near the pet.

I have a tracker that I used to use on my dog (https://www.pawtrax.co.uk), but it started to act up (after 2-3 years), thats when I realised that it was working on the old cell tech, basically the networks that it could talk to were reducing rapidly, and think they are now on about turning off 3g in the new year in various parts, so ensure you look at what the actual networks that the system works on.
airtags are good for items that maybe stolen, but agree if its a dog in the countryside and he does not come across other people then they dont work, or you could strap a iPhone 13 to the dog and use find my phone  Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Thanks for the replies. Air tags are great, we have half a dozen for various bits but as mentioned they wouldn’t work for my use in a rural location.

I went for the Pawfit 2. Only had it a day but set-up was a doddle and tracking hasn’t lost signal so far. WARNING.
