Handbrake cure
My Puma developed the handbrake judder thing when approaching a stop. Slackening off the drum adjuster to the extent that the lever passed through 6 clicks before holding, made no difference. The trick is to set the adjuster on the cable, not the drum. Why the outer should lengthen, I don't know, but it does after a few thousand kms. Particularly when hot.

I shortened the outer by 5mm (turning the nuts so as to reduce the amount of thread visible) and then set the drum adjuster to factory specs ie. turn all the way in to dead tight then loosen one and a half turns. Actually I went out 2 turns but I now have a handbrake that holds at three clicks. The judder has gone completely.

Thanks for the update, I took mine to the dealer and they replaced the drum, and reset the cable to near factory spec, although it was 4 clicks to engage, but the problem came back.

I have tried your solution and all seems good.

My only concern is that I am now out of thread / adjustment on the cable end and have had to back the actuator on the drum an extra quarter turn to get rid of the judder.

It is only on long runs, 400 miles, that the heat seems to build up enough, I wonder if the outer is expanding at a different rate to the inner cable and dragging it on.

I have about 15mm of thread still visible on the cable adjuster. Sounds wrong that you are out of thread.
