Hi dorsetsmith.

Good ol Driver Demand 1 fault, been chasing this one for years and still not settled on an absolute cause for it.

Driver Demand (DD) faults are reputedly caused by either worn accelerator pedal tracks (track 1 in this case) or a broken wire between the pedal and the ECU. This is the first place to start fault finding, but in my experience it was not these bits of hardware at fault.

What i did notice was that the DD fault started at the point of remapping and increasing boost presumably to or beyond the limit of the intake MAP sensor. The DD fault only ever occurs on heavy throttle, full boost (but not over boost), moderately to heavily laden and up hill either prolonged or steep). The interesting thing is that since I have backed off the boost the problem has ceased to happen. This leaves me to presume that there was/is an unbalance in the ECU mapping that under certain conditions a DD1 fault is triggered. My remap was not bespoke to my engine but a via mail. This may be the underlying issue.

But it might not...

Anyone else have more of a clue?!

Interesting read here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic65395.html - Turned out to be the ECU at fault.

Defo check FPR for leaks although this tends to exhibit as failure to start the engine rather than top end problems. Not saying it can't be the FPR but unlikely in my experience. Top end problems are likely to be fuel pump (lazy or old) or possibly corrosion around the the fuel filter union seals.

I have seen that configuration of voltages before in another post/forum, if i recall they were using a hawkeye to diagnose it. I am afraid I do not recall the outcome.

Ok, so do we think there are three faults that result in a DD1 fault being logged?

1) Engine management light on, no throttle - Pedal replacement appears to fix problem
2) No Engine management light on, throttle OK, goes in to limp home, reduced boost and RPM - ECU map and boost issue
3) No engine management light on, throttle OK, track 3 Supply voltage too high (10v) - Maybe fault with dash light cluster.

A place to start maybe...

the wastegate stuck open now free up and working one down

( moves from close to 1/4 open at 14psi and fully open at 20 psi )
